Training on Gran Canaria Island, February 2016

Dirk Pauling and Thomas Oberli spent the last week of February getting the basic endurance needed for the Epic in March.

There is not often that much snow on Pico de las Nieves (1949m) … always a big event here when it happens. Everybody drives up to build snowman.

Training and racing in the winter

Over the past months we were lucky to be able to ride our bikes. The winter was not that cold as it used to be in past Cape Epic preparation years.

Dirk in the dirt! He loves the challenge of racing in the mud and rain. Always a good way to get some race fundaments early in the season.

I rode my Scott Scale through the Winter. My new Spark will be used only for training in Spain and then for racing. It’s good to start the Epic with new components … they get their load of hardship during the race!

We look forward to go to Gran Canaria in a few days and enjoy Toni Hasler’s training plans! It should be about 15 degrees warmer as in the Zurich region. A good way to prepare yourself to support the South African heat.

2016 ABSA CAPE EPIC RIDER

In 30 days will be the start of the ABSA Cape Epic in South Africa with the Prologue at the Meerendal Wine Estate.

Before we head to South Africa, we will spend a week of preparation on Gran Canaria Island the last week of February.

Stay tuned!
